Who hasn't heard of it? It is arguably one of the most beautiful islands in the world, widely celebrated for the spectacular Faraglioni rocks, the famous Blue Grotto and Villa San Michele with its enchanted garden. For millions, Capri is a place of myth and longing, the quintessence of romance, a playground for the beautiful and the rich and, over the centuries, a refuge for artists.
Taking an extraordinary journey around the island, Yvonne Meyer-Lohr links the photographic masterpieces of Umberto D'Aniello with the vivid essays and stories of celebrated Capri-born writer Claretta Cerio. Together, they have fashioned a tribute to one of the most beautiful islands in the world.
This stunning book takes one on an extraordinary trip round Capri, showing the Italian island in all its facets, contrasts and unique beauty. The journey follows familiar and unfamiliar paths, opening perspectives that remain hidden from the casual visitor. The beauty of nature, the magnificent villas of eccentric residents, the distinctive worlds of Capri and Anacapri, the accounts of luxury and the jet set and even faith and superstition are fascinating subjects illustrated with expressive photographs and described with humour and insider knowledge. The result is a tribute to one of the most beautiful islands in the world.
Yvonne Meyer-Lohr designed the award-winning book "Deserts of the Earth" with photographs by Michael Martin. Now, in this handsome volume about Capri, she has gathered together not only the familiar views known by tourists but also the hidden, mysterious side of the island that its many long-standing devotees treasure.
