The oldest and most highly acclaimed jewelry store on the island of Capri was founded in 1936 by local matriarch Aprea Olimpia. Ever since its opening Perla Gioielli, situated in the legendary Piazzetta, has attracted numerous members of Italian and International fashionable society with its wonderful collections and the professionalism of Olimpia and, later, her daughter Angela.
Among the famous customers of times past to have gazed longingly into the show cases we find Jacqueline Kennedy, Maria Callas, Aristotele Onassis and Clark Gable.
John Steinbeck wrote one of his most celebrated novels whilst staying in Olimpia's residence on the island.
In 1940 Olimpia's creation "La Campanella di San Michele" (St Michel's Bell) was presented to President Roosevelt and a few years later was rung in Washington to mark the end of the Seconf World War.
Olimpia's grandsons, Giorgio and Giuseppe have now inherited the family business and continue to offer clients the same courteous service and professional customer care.
Modern day celebrities such as Sofia Loren, Dolce & Gabbana, Keanu Reeves, Mariah Carey and Naomi Campbell have all fallen under the spell of La Perla's enchanting selection of designer jewelry and watches which includes the works of the master jeweler Buccellati.
