Guided tours - Capri - Oebalus

Just as Oebalus, Virgil's hero and Prince of the Island of Capri was aggravated by the limitations imposed on his reign, so too the members of the Oebalus association are frequently frustrated by the narrow mindedness which is sadly often a companion of island life.
Since its foundation in 1992, the Cultural Association Oebalus, has concentrated its activities in two main areas of study; local history and other subjects considered conducive to civil and cultural growth.
Local history is examined with the aid of tours guided by expert naturists and historians experts and conferences related to the same themes.
Themes of international relevance are also discussed, themes such as Capri and Islam, Ethics and religion in Capri, the volcanic risk in the Gulf of Naples and so on.
Among the aims of the Oebalus Association there is that of recuperating the island's historical, archeological and naturalistic heritage by way of systematic and scientific analysis.
As far as cultural growth in the community is concerned, the association proposes a variety of topics such as the politics of war, flexibility in the work place, the Israel-Palestine question, to name just a few of the themes discussed in a laical and science friendly environment.

The Cultural Association Oebalus has published the papers of the 2003 and 2004 conferences "Conoscere Capri 1" and "Conoscere Capri 2" . A number of local history books are currently in printing.
