FAQ

When is the Blue Grotto open?

The Blue Grotto is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm, weather permitting. Entrance to the cave is only permitted when sea conditions are calm and there are no cross winds or high waves, as the cave entrance is only one meter above the level of the water.

How can I find out if the Grotto is open or closed ahead of time?

Unfortunately, the weather forecast can only give an indication regarding the possibility of the grotto being closed for inclement weather. The skippers who take visitors into the cave must first check sea conditions at the cave entrance each morning at 9 in person to verify if the cave will be open or closed. On this page you can check the updated red and green light to see if the grotto is open or closed.

How much does it cost to enter the Blue Grotto?

Tickets cost EUR 14, with discounts for children.

How long does the visit inside the cave last?

The visit inside the cave lasts 5 minutes, but if you tip your skipper you can stay inside for longer :)

Can you swim in the Blue Grotto?

No, it is both illegal and dangerous to swim in the grotto. Despite this, many people dive into the grotto in the evening once it is closed to visitors.

Is there a way to skip the queue to enter the cave?

To avoid a long wait to enter the cave (which can be up to 2 hours during high season), you should head to the cave before 9 am to be at the entrance when the rowboats begin taking in visitors. You can arrive with the first transfer from Marina Grande to the Blue Grotto with Motoscafisti, which is the same boat the grotto staff takes. The most crowded times to visit the cave are at midday.

What is the best time of day to see the bright colors of the cave waters?

The cave water reaches its most intense shade of blue at midday.

Can I reach the Blue Grotto on foot?

Yes, from the center of Anacapri there is a bus which arrives near the entrance to the Grotto, and from the bus stop you can take the stairs down to the water's edge and board a boat entering the cave.

Can I buy a ticket online, or reserve a time?

No, you can only purchase a transfer from Marina Grande to the Blue Grotto in advance, but not entrance to the cave itself.
