Naples International Airport is situated 7 kms from the city center. It is comprised of two terminals: terminal 1 for regular airline traffic and terminal two for charter flights. Recently enlarged, the airport is equipped with executive lounges, and function rooms for meetings, seminars, or the reception of important guests. On the first floor there are a number of shops selling traditional regional goods, and bars offering both Italian and International dishes to satisfy the tastes of every customer.

For those wishing to reach Naples center by public transport, there is the Alibus shuttle service linking Naples International Airport with the Piazza Garibaldi Railway station and the port of Piazza Municipio; tickets cost 3 euro, are valid for 90 minutes, can be used on other city transport services and can be purchased on board. Departures every 30 minutes from 6.30 to 23.30
Another means of public transport is provided by the S3 line of the ANM (Azienda Napoletana Mobilità) with departures for Piazza Garibaldi (Central Railway Station) every 10 minutes. In the immediate vicinity of Piazza Garibaldi one finds one of the principal ANM bus terminals which serves the whole city bus network
A comfortable alternative is that offered by the CLP (private coaches) which depart approximately every 30 minutes from outside Terminal 1, arrivals side, for Piazza Municipio, tickets can be purchased on board and the average journey time is 40 minutes. Travelers should take note that the coach stops at Piazza Municipio which is about a three minute walk away from the port of Beverello.

Taxis can be found at the exits of both terminals: check that the taxi license and relative number are displayed. The price of the journey is determined by the taximeter. Flat fare is available for Napoli Centrale railway station and Molo Beverello port. Journey time to the railway station is approximately 15 minutes, for Piazza Municipio and Beverello port 20 minutes, for Mergellina port 25 minutes. Taxis are always available at the airport.

Those not traveling on a budget and wishing to use an extremely comfortable and exclusive service might like to choose a private transfer, available 24 hours a day, for any destination along the gulfs of Naples and Salerno, including Capri.

Alternatively, travelers can rent a car at the airport with any of the international car rental companies.

Naples airport is connected to Capri and all nearby towns and cities by a helicopter service especially designed for the leisure market (not an emergency service).

By train

The Trenitalia national railway network links all the major Italian cities with Naples.

There are three stations in Naples:

  • Napoli Centrale, in Piazza Garibaldi, servita da taxi, autobus, metropolitana e Circumvesuviana, la linea ferroviaria che collega, con molta frequenza, il capoluogo con tutti i Paesi Vesuviani e arriva fino a Sorrento.
  • Mergellina, a 300 metri dal molo omonimo, servita da taxi, metropolitana e autobus;
  • Campi Flegrei, nella zona di Fuorigrotta, servita da taxi, metropolitana e autobus.

A number of trains continue on from Naples to Salerno, which offers connections to the cities of Northern and Central Italy and is also served by trains directed southwards to Reggio Calabria. The Taxi from Napoli Centrale railway stations to Molo Beverello have flat rate.

By car

Naples can be reached in car from Northern and Central Italy by following the A1 motorway until Caserta and then the A2 to Naples.
At this stage drivers should take the tangenziale (ring road) and exit at “Fuorigrotta”, for the wharf of Mergellina or “Centro-Porto” for the Beverello port.

Those travelling from the direction of Bari should use the A14 and A16 until Pomigliano and then take the A2 exiting at “Napoli Nord” for the tangenziale.

From Reggio Calabria drivers should take the A3 northwards until meeting the A2 and the exit for “Napoli Nord and the tangenziale. The stretch of motorway between Salerno and Reggio Calabria is toll free.

For information concerning traffic conditions, travellers can contact the ACI (Italian motorway association) or use the 24 hr toll free number 1518. Information can also be attained via Radio Iso throughout Italy on 103.3 FM.

Car Parks

Close to the docks for embarking to Capri, there are a number of attended car parks where tourists can leave their vehicles.

In Naples, at the Beverello docks there is an open air attended car park, or, alternatively, close by, in Via Brin, there is the considerably cheaper Interscambio-Autosilo Brin multi-storey Car park - the area's largest covered car park.
Drivers will also find attended car parks close to the ports of Mergellina, Sorrento and Salerno.

From the coast to Capri

From Naples one can reach Capri from teh ports of Calata Porta di Massa (ferries), Molo Beverello and Mergellina (both only hydrofoils). The journey takes 40 minutes by hydrofoil, 50 minutes by fast ferry, and an hour and 20 minutes by traditional ferry.
Those travelling with excess or large baggage will need to buy additional tickets for each piece of luggage to present to staff when embarking
Beverello port, a few steps away from Piazza Municipio. This is the port serving the hydrofoils of various companies. A shuttle service connect Molo Beverello and Calata Porta di Massa. Cars can be transported on the ferries (in low season) exclusively from Calata Porta di Massa port. Mergellina port, 300 meters away from the station of the same name. Hydrofoils leave from here every hour in high season.

From Sorrento there are a number of hydrofoil, and both fast and traditional ferry connections. The journey takes 20 minutes by hydrofoil, 30 by fast ferry and 40 by traditional ferry.

From Salerno, in high season, there are daily departures by hydrofoil and ferry.

Tickets can be purchased in advance and some companies offer the possibility to buy on- line. In any case, even in the busiest times of the year, maximum waiting times rarely surpass an hour. Time tables are subject to seasonal variations and it is advisable to contact the various sailing companies or the Capri tourist information office (Azienda Autonoma di Cura Soggiorno e Turismo dell’isola di Capri) to obtain the latest times prior to departure.

By helicopter

A helicopter service is available from Naples airport to Capri. The flight takes 15 to 20 minutes and each helicopter can accommodate a maximum of four passengers. Due to the reduced space aboard, customers are advised to avoid carrying excess baggage.
