Visitors can reach the Grotta Azzurra from the sea, by boat, or from Anacapri by foot, bus or taxi. Those coming from Anacapri, prior to arriving at the Grotta Azzurra, should take the time to visit, on route, Villa Damecuta, with the ruins of a once luxurious Roman villa. One enters the site from Via Amedeo Maiuri, passing by the Air Force’s meteorological center.
Within the archaeological site of Villa Damecuta there is a tower most likely to have been built in the Medieval period.
Continuing back down the main road, one arrives at square with bus and taxi rank, from here, a tiny flight of steps leads to the entrance to the Grotta Azzurra. To go inside the cave, it is necessary to board one of the small wooden row boats manned by local boatmen who, after having instructed visitors to lie down on the bottom of the boat, squeeze the boats through the small opening in to the mountainside, maneuvering the vessel with the aid of a chain walled into the rock face.
In the immediate vicinity there are numerous places where to take a swim or have something to eat, at any time of day, savoring the freshest fish and traditional fare of the Island of Capri.
