Via Le Botteghe commences in the Piazzetta, between the Gran Caffè bar and the town hall. The narrow road conserves many of its medieval features, with arches linking the houses built either side. A lane to the left, immediately after the first arch, leads to the tiny Church of St Anna, dating back to the eighth century.
After the second arch the habitations of the medieval city terminate and the more modern Via Fuorlovado, meaning “I go beyond the inhabited area”, commences.
Continuing onwards one begins the long, steep ascent of Via Croce. To the right one can admire the gardens of Villa Helios, a Moorish style house decorated with blue majolica, with a century old Ficus magnolia with thick exposed roots.
Continuing to the right, along the pleasant Via Matermania, one arrives at a junction: in one direction there is Via Dentecala which leads to the Piazzetta delle Noci looking out over the south-east coast of the Island of Capri, with a pine wood planted in the nineteen twenties so as to avoid the urbanization of the area, in the other direction one continues along Via Matermania which leads to the Natural Arch.
