Schedules, prices, and helpful information to get from Naples to Capri
Napoli - Capri

Updated by Tourist Information Office.
Routes and times updated in real time and refer to the current week.
The port of Naples is the main departure port for Capri: this route operates year round, even in the winter. In the summer (from April to October) it runs more frequently. The other ports with year-round connections to Capri are Castellammare di Stabia and Sorrento. In the summer there are also routes from the Amalfi Coast: Positano, Amalfi, Maiori and Salerno.
Here’s everything you need to know to plan your hydrofoil or ferry trip.
Departing from Naples is the most convenient option if you’re arriving with a flight at Naples Capodichino Airport.
Hydrofoil and ferry options
Hydrofoils: Hydrofoils are fast and frequent, leaving from Molo Beverello to reach Capri in about 45-50 minutes. They have indoor areas with air conditioning and some also have an external upper deck. All have restrooms and a snack bar. This is the fastest and most comfortable option if you’re coming to Capri for a day trip and need to optimize your time. Some hydrofoils have a double hull; those are called catamarans. A catamaran isn’t suitable for anyone who suffers from seasickness. Unfortunately, however, you can’t know the exact type of hydrofoil before booking.
High-speed ferries: High-speed ferries can carry both passengers and cars, and the crossing from Naples to Capri takes about an hour. They have indoor spaces with air conditioning, restrooms, and ample space for luggage. They also have an upper deck without seats. High-speed ferries depart from Calata Porta di Massa (cars and passengers) and Molo Beverello (passengers only).
Ferries: Regular ferries are a slower but more economical option. The crossing takes about an hour and 30 minutes. These ferries have both indoor and outdoor spaces with benches. This is an ideal option if you have bulky luggage or prefer a more relaxed crossing with outdoor space. The ferry runs even in the event of rough seas and is suspended only on days of extreme storms. A regular ferry ticket is the most cost-efficient option for getting to Capri.
From Naples to Capri you can decide to take a hydrofoil or ferry; however, we recommend taking a hydrofoil. Hydrofoil crossings are more frequent and you’ll get to Capri faster. If time isn’t an issue and you want to save some money, opt for the ferry or fast ferry. These two choices are the best options on days when the sea is rough. Compared to hydrofoils, ferries are more stable and less subject to cancellations due to bad weather.

Ferries from Naples to Capri are operational year-round.

Practical tips
Book in advance: Especially in the summer months, you should reserve your seat online in advance to ensure availability and avoid long lines at the ticket office.
Arrive at the port early: Show up at the port at least 20 minutes before departure, especially on weekends or during holidays. Check whether your ticket includes check-in at the ticket office or offers you the option of boarding directly. If you have to go to the ticket office, you should arrive even earlier.
Luggage: On hydrofoils, only small bags are included in the ticket price; for bulky bags, a supplement may be required.
Check the weather: Although hydrofoils are a faster option, they’re also more susceptible to cancellations due to rough seas. If the weather is bad, opt for a ferry.

Is there a ferry between Naples and Capri?
Yes, you can reach the island of Capri from Naples all year round thanks to frequent ferry and hydrofoil connections. During the high season (April-October), there are departures every 30-60 minutes between Naples and Capri island, ensuring a comfortable and punctual service. The main companies such as Alilauro Gruson, SNAV, NLG, Laser Capri and Caremar offer different options for the Naples Capri ferry route: from fast hydrofoils for those who want to optimize time, to traditional ferries, which are ideal for a more relaxed crossing or for those traveling with more than one piece of luggage each or oversized suitcases.
In addition to the port of Capri, from Naples you can easily reach other destinations in the Gulf of Naples. The Naples-Ischia and Naples-Procida ferry routes connect these islands with regular departure times. If you want to visit the Amalfi Coast, there are crossings between Naples-Amalfi, Naples-Positano, and Capri-Positano, perfect for a coastal excursion.
Ferry routes are also available from the ports of Castellammare di Stabia and Salerno, which is well-connected to Capri and other destinations. The Laser Capri company offers crossings to and from ports in the province, such as Portici and Torre Annunziata.
Differences in service between high season and low season
Ferry crossings between Sorrento and the island of Capri vary greatly between high and low season, both in terms of frequency and availability. Here’s a detailed overview and some useful tips to help you plan your trip.
Naples-Capri in high season (April-October)
• Increased frequency: During the spring and summer months, companies increase the number of departures to meet tourist demand. Departures are available every 30-60 minutes, from early morning until evening.
• Extended timetables: The first departures start around 7 am, with the last evening departure often around 9 pm, or later in the main summer months.
• Wide choice of companies: There are various companies to choose from, such as Alilauro Gruson, SNAV, NLG, Laser Capri and Caremar, offering both fast hydrofoils and traditional ferries.
• Reservations recommended: Given the high turnout, especially on weekends and between June and September, booking in advance is the key to avoiding long lines or sold-out ferry routes.
• Boarding times: Show up at least 30-60 minutes before departure so you’ll have plenty of time to go through all the boarding procedures, especially for the return from Capri, where the lines can be longer.
Naples-Capri in low season (November-March)
If you’re dreaming of visiting Capri at its most relaxing and authentic, the winter months are ideal. There are still sea crossings, but with a few things to keep in mind:
• Less frequency, more tranquility: The trips become less frequent, approximately every 1-2 hours, with reduced timetables (latest daily departure between 6 pm and 7 pm).
• No crowds, all relaxation: The low season is perfect if you want to avoid rushing and enjoy the island with fewer tourists.
• Unpredictable weather conditions: The hydrofoils are lighter and therefore more sensitive to rough seas, so always keep an eye on the weather forecast to avoid delays or cancellations.
Practical tips for both seasons
• Book online: In high season booking in advance is essential, while in low season you can easily purchase your tickets directly at the port. Even then, however, we recommend that you check your departure time to verify that it hasn’t changed due to inclement weather.
• Pay attention to the weather: In the event of bad weather you can call the ferry companies’ call centers to get updated on current conditions and timetables, especially in the winter months.
• Manage your luggage: During the summer, consider there may be supplements for large bags; in winter, the rules tend to be more flexible.
• Plan your return trip: Whether it is summer or winter, make sure to choose a return time that gives you plenty of room to make any onward connections you might have scheduled in your journey. We also recommend you purchase your return ticket in advance.
Differences between ferry companies
The main companies that operate on the Naples-Capri route are Alilauro, SNAV, NLG (Navigazione Libera del Golfo) and Caremar. The differences between their services are minimal.
• Alilauro, SNAV and NLG (Navigazione Libera del Golfo): Fast hydrofoils, ideal for those looking for speed and comfort in a short crossing. They offer frequent departures and modernized service.
• Caremar: The best choice for those traveling with bulky luggage or vehicles, thanks to the ferries’ large capacity and outdoor spaces.
Services on board:
• Alilauro, SNAV, NLG: Air-conditioned interior spaces, comfortable seating, and in some cases a snack bar/cafeteria.
• Caremar: Outdoor areas, vehicle transport, large spaces for bulky luggage.
Timetables and crossing times
What to do if you arrive late for the ferry
If you arrive late, immediately check the time of the next trip. During high season, departures are frequent (every 30-60 minutes), making it easy to find an alternative. Check the updated timetable online or on the departure boards at the port.
If you already have a ticket, many companies such as Alilauro, SNAV, NLG and Caremar allow you to change the time by paying a small fee. You can do this directly at the ticket offices.
Distance between Naples and Capri
The distance between Naples and Capri is about 15 nautical miles, or 39 kilometers.
Sit on the left side of the hydrofoil during the journey and you will be able to admire:
Mount Vesuvius, an icon of the Campania region that dominates the landscape
The Sorrento Peninsula, with its cliffs overlooking the sea
Punta Campanella, the last strip of land that connects the Sorrento Peninsula and the Amalfi Coast
Tiberius' Leap, the remains of an ancient Roman villa, when you arrive in Capri
Approaching Capri, the port of Marina Grande is among one of the first views that will grab your attention. Sitting on the port side of the boat offers the best view towards Capri. The crossing is actually much like a mini-cruise, and it’s perfect if you want to start the day exploring with a touch of natural beauty.
Upon arrival on Capri, disembarking takes place at Marina Grande. The port is well-connected to the island’s main points of interest, such as Anacapri and the Piazzetta.
Baggage: rules and fees
A carry-on bag is included in your ticket price, but a larger piece of luggage will incur a supplement of approximately 3 euros per bag. Staff on board will show you the designated areas where you’ll need to stow any large bags during the crossing. Upon arrival in Capri, there’s a porter service that can bring any large bags directly to your hotel.
Children
Children and infants are entitled to discounts or free tickets on hydrofoils between Naples and Capri.
Caremar regular and high-speed ferries:
0-5 years: Free
6-12 years: Reduced-price ticket
Gescab hydrofoils (Snav, Navigazione Libera del Golfo, Gescab):

Pets: what to bring and rules
Pets are allowed on board, but must be kept on a leash and wear a muzzle (for dogs) or be transported in cages or carriers (for cats and small animals). Some companies apply a small supplement for transporting animals. In all cases, you must have the animal's health and identity documents.
Accessibility for people with disabilities
By law, all hydrofoils, ships, and ferries must be accessible to people with disabilities. We recommend you contact the ferry company in advance to ensure that the vessel is accessible and to request assistance during boarding and disembarking. Keep in mind that hydrofoils are generally more accessible than regular and high-speed ferries, because there aren’t any stairs to climb for boarding.
Private boat tours as an alternative
Renting a private boat to reach Capri is an exclusive option that turns your transfer into a panoramic tour. It’s perfect for those seeking privacy and comfort and is ideal for couples, groups, or if you’re celebrating a special event.
- Advance booking: Essential in high season to ensure availability

- Weather: Choose a day with calm seas for an optimal experience

- Explore: Visit enchanting sea caves such as the Green Grotto and the White Grotto
- Scenic cruising: You’ll sail around the Faraglioni rock formations, perfect for spectacular photos

- Amenities and equipment on board: Beach towels, snorkeling, drinks, and in some cases snacks or lunch
- Duration: Full day (6-8 hours)
Renting a private boat to travel from Naples all the way to Capri has a significant cost because the distance between Naples and Capri requires a powerful boat. If you’re coming on a cruise, take into consideration that these boats can’t depart from the same cruise ship port, so you’ll have to organize your transfer to another port.
Therefore, the most convenient option is to take a hydrofoil or ferry to Capri and then take a private boat to tour the island. This way you’ll save at least half the cost, since private boat tours of the island start at 200 euros.
What to do when you arrive on Capri
The port of Marina Grande in Capri can be very, very chaotic. You should arrive with a clear idea of where to go and what to do. On the hydrofoil, take some time to understand where you’ll be going and what transport you’ll need to take after disembarking, whether that’s the funicular, the bus to the Piazzetta, or, if you’ve booked a boat tour, how to reach your meeting point. We absolutely do not recommend trying to reach the center of Capri on foot. It’s a very steep 15-minute climb!
Taxis, buses and funicular: How to get around Capri
To get between the main attractions, Capri offers a network of local buses, traditional open-top taxis, and the funicular. Buses are economical and run frequently, while taxis are a quicker and more scenic option.
Local buses:
• Inexpensive and frequent, buses connect the port with the Piazzetta, Anacapri, and other locations.
• Tip: Buy a full-day ticket (about €8) for unlimited travel
Traditional open-top taxis:
• Convertibles that are ideal for quick and scenic trips
• Cost: More expensive than buses, but perfect for an exclusive experience
Funicular:
• Fast, direct connection between the port and the Piazzetta
• Tip: Get your ticket at the Port of Naples
