Situated in the historic center of Capri, just steps away from the legendary Piazzetta, Restaurant Al Grottino is one of Capri's finest traditional eateries.

History in the making

Created within the walls of a 15th century edifice, characterized by old stone arches and cross vaulted ceilings, ever since it first opened its doors to hungry holidaymakers Al Grottino has been a favourite haunt of those looking for good honest food and wine and a charming setting in which to savor it.

Mentioned in all of the most authoritative international gastronomic guides, Restaurant Al Grottino is famous for its delicious Neapolitan cuisine and traditional island dishes, all of which prepared using only the freshest of seasonal ingredients.

A family passion

For over 80 years, Al Grottino has been run by members of the Arbace family, whose passion for quality food and fine service has made the restaurant one of the most popular on the whole island of Capri, as testified by the many photos of past and present customers which adorn the dining room walls.
During the warm summer months, it's particularly pleasant to relax over a meal in Il Grottino's air conditioned dining room.

Arbace family is the owner also of Pulalli restaurant, on the clocktower in the famous Piazzetta di Capri

Cannot reccomend

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Al Grottino. We were three women and wanted to share a few dishes, but we were repeatedly encouraged to order additional dishes and drinks. We were told that there was “a little more” meat and asked if that was okay. Only on the bill did we notice that we were charged an additional €7 for it, which I found rather unclear. The Aperol Spritz was charged as an Cocktail, and the pasta we ordered with pomegranate was served without any pomegranate. Overall, the service felt quite pushy and unpleasant. At these prices, we expected much more transparency and hospitality.

Exceptional first courses in the heart of Capri

We stopped for lunch and chose only first courses, but they were enough to make an excellent impression on us. The pasta was truly fabulous: generous portions, quality ingredients, and well-balanced flavors. You can perceive the attention in the preparation and every dish was taken care of in the details. The prices are certainly high, but one must consider that we are in the center of Capri and, for the quality offered, we found them in line with the location. Kind staff and attentive service. If you are looking for a place to eat an excellent plate of pasta during a visit to Capri, it is certainly a choice that I recommend. We were left curious about a full meal.....

A wonderful experience at Grottino di Capri! Excellent dishes, prepared with care and quality ingredients, in a welcoming and authentic setting. Special credit goes to Mr. Gianfranco, the owner, who with his friendliness, cheerfulness, and cordiality manages to make you feel at home. Their hospitality makes lunch even more pleasant and helps create a truly unique atmosphere. If you are passing through Capri, it is a restaurant I recommend without hesitation. Until next time! Never again!

Maybe, once upon a time, but now... Very expensive and, on top of that, embarrassing service and boarding school-style cooking: gnocchi that have never seen a potato with a meat sauce that has never seen meat, fried pasta like at a village fair, fish that I prefer not to comment on, and not just because of the quality. Leave it to the foreigners who have overdone it with the aperitif. What a shame to waste our "oil" like this...
