The Italian island of Capri covers only 10 square kilometers (3.8 square miles), so it's easy to focus on the center of Capri town and Anacapri to visit Capri in just one day. That said, the island is rich in natural and cultural sights that are best visited at a leisurely pace to fully savor their beauty and experience Capri's relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere.

From the Marina Grande port, take the funicular uphill to Piazza Umberto I (known locally as La Piazzetta), admire the amazing views over the blue sea in the Bay of Naples, settle in at a cafe table on the square for great people-watching and a glass of limoncello, and then stroll past the boutiques and luxury hotels lining Via Camerelle and Via Tragara. Inside the Gardens of Augustus (Giardini di Augusto), drink in the panorama overlooking Marina Piccola and the Faraglioni rock formations. Stop in at the Charterhouse of San Giacomo (Certosa di San Giacomo) or walk uphill to the Roman ruins of Villa Jovis, where the ancient emperor Tiberio would take a break from Rome.

Head to Anacapri to catch the chairlift to the highest point on Monte Solaro and then visit Axel Munthe's dazzling Villa San Michele and other sights like Casa Rossa and the Church of Santa Sofia. Head to the entrance of the Blue Grotto to catch a rowboat into the famous sea cave. Catch the sunset from the Punta Carena lighthouse and let Capri Island steal your heart.
