Divine by name and divine by nature, E' Divino is one of the best eateries on the island of Capri. It's also one of the most unusual.
If it weren't for the delicious aromas wafting from the kitchen, the sound of clinking glasses, and the sight of the occasional waiter running from room to room, you'd be forgiven for thinking that you'd come to the wrong place and that, instead of walking into a restaurant, you'd walked straight into your wacky Italian grandmother's house!
Tucked down one of the narrow lanes which characterize the historic center of Capri and a mere 2 minute walk away from the Piazzetta, E' Divino, occupies a building which looks very much like a private home.
The old fashioned majolica-tiled kitchen, the Viennese-style sitting room, the living room with open fireplace and the bedroom (a big brass bed still takes pride of place in the center of the room amongst the tables!): each and every room in the house has been transformed into a unique dining venue, embellished with an amazing array of antique furniture, curious paintings, precious glassware and trunk-loads of vintage knick-knacks.
Want to eat al fresco? Meals are served in E' Divino's lemon garden and internal courtyard too
It's hardly surprising if E' Divino has acquired a reputation as the island's most eclectic eatery. But does the food live up to the décor?
Yes! On the menu you'll find both beautifully presented gourmet creations and traditional island treats, all of which are prepared with only the very freshest of locally-sourced ingredients.
The early morning trip to the market is a ritual which E' Divino's chef never fails to observe! It's only after he's seen (and purchased) the best of what's on offer, that he decides the dish of the day
Take a stroll in the Piazzetta, along the boutique-lined Via Camerelle or down the lanes of the historic center of Capri and you might easily come across little groups islanders and holidaymakers making plans to meet at E' Divino.
Part island home, part bohemian bistrot, this unique restaurant has become one of the chicest places to chill and chat in Capri - be it over a leisurely lunch, a romantic dinner or after-dinner drinks and dessert.
